Know Car Accident
Written by
Simon M
Anyone who drives or rides in a car could be in an accident. Knowing what to do when you are in an accident could help you to avoid panicking. It is also important to know what the law and your insurance company require when you are in an auto accident.
Remain at the Scene and Call for Help
It is the law that you remain at the scene of an accident. Even if you do not think you are injured, it is important to stay at the scene and call for help. If possible, move the affected vehicles off the roadway and to the side of the road. It is a good idea to stay in your car in order to avoid getting hit by other cars traveling on the road. Call 9-1-1 or the local emergency number. In times of bad weather, it is possible that the police will only respond to injury accidents. Calling for emergency services also helps to ensure that a tow truck is available to remove your vehicle or the other vehicles if they are not in operable condition.
Check in With the Other Driver
Check in with the other driver or drivers who were involved in the accident. You will need to get their identifying details, including their name, driver's license number, and insurance policy number, as well as the name of their auto insurer and their contact information.

Document What Happened
It is important to document what happened. Your insurance company will want to know the details. If possible, take photos of the scene and of the cars that were involved. Make note of the road conditions, the level of traffic and what you were doing at the time of the accident. Be honest if you were doing something that you should not have been, such as texting while driving.
File an Insurance Claim
As soon as possible, report the accident to your insurance company. Some insurance policies stipulate a timeline for reporting, such as immediately or within 24 hours of the accident. Taking a driving class might help with preventing your insurance premiums from going up a significant amount. These tips help to avoid stress after an auto accident.
