This course is live, interactive, and engaging! You will be able to interact and ask questions with a live instructor. You will not be clicking your screen for 5 Hours!
No final exam or quizzes required at any point in the course! If you attend this course, you will be issued a completion certificate!

What is the 5 Hour Pre-Licensing Course?
The Pre-Licensing Course, or better known as “the 5-hour class,” is designed specifically by the New York Department of Motor Vehicles to teach future drivers how to safely drive on the road. It is a mandatory course for New York State Permit Holders ages 16 and up. You are not able to schedule or take your road test if you have not completed the 5 Hour Pre-Licensing Course and received a Completion Certificate. The only exemption to this requirement is if you have completed Drivers Education and have an MV-285.
What is needed in order to take this course?
In order to take this course, you must present the following documents:
- a current NY Photo Learner Permit
or
- a valid interim (paper) permit with an NYS Government-issued ID card (such as a Non-Driver ID Card, Expired NY Photo Permit, and/or Expired NY Photo License)
In addition to the above documentation requirements, in order to participate in the distance learning course, you must:
- download Zoom app
- have reliable internet access
- have a camera and microphone enabled on your device
- be in an environment with minimal distractions
