Step 5: Understanding Your Road Test Results
Your result is located under test details. Regardless if you pass or fail, the 'scored items' section under your results is a vital area to review. It provides a breakdown of your performance, helping you identify any areas that might need more practice. Understanding the road test point system is essential for passing the road test. Each driving error you make will result in points being deducted, with the severity of each mistake affecting the number of points lost, typically between 5 to 15 points per error. A total of 30 points or more leads to failure. Additionally, some critical errors can lead to immediate failure.

If You Pass

Congratulations on passing your road test! Here's what you need to know:

  • Interim License: An interim license will be available to print under "test details" in the bottom right corner, which you should keep with your photo learner permit.
  • Receiving Your License: You will receive your photo driver license in the mail within about 2 weeks.
  • Probationary Period: All new drivers are subject to a probationary period, so it's important to continue driving safely and responsibly.
  • For Drivers Under Age 18: If you have a Class DJ, MJ, or DJ/MJ driver license and are under 18, remember to adhere to the restrictions for junior drivers.

If You Fail

Don’t be discouraged if you don't pass. Here's what you should know:

  • Your Learner Permit: Your learner permit remains valid until its expiration date.
  • Practice Specific Skills: Based on the feedback and your own reflection, practice the specific driving skills that need improvement. This could involve maneuvering, parallel parking, maintaining proper speed, or improving overall awareness and reaction to road conditions.
  • Consider Additional Driving Lessons: If certain aspects of driving are consistently challenging, consider taking additional driving lessons at a reputable driving school. A professional driving instructor can provide targeted guidance and help improve your driving skills.
  • Scheduling Another Road Test: Once you feel more prepared and confident in your driving abilities, schedule a retest. Make sure you give yourself enough time to practice and improve before the next test. Note that additional skills fees are required after failing the first two attempts.
  • Preparing for the Next Test: To pay for additional tests, ensure that you have a valid learner permit or driver license, provide your DMV ID Number and date of birth, have no other road tests currently available, and pay the fee with a credit or debit card.

Conclusion

Whether you're celebrating a pass or preparing for a retake, remember that each step is part of your learning journey. Drive Rite Academy is here to support you every step of the way, providing the guidance and resources you need to become a safe and skilled driver.
